Crowns or caps cover all or part of a tooth in order to improve both appearance and strength. They are used to restore badly broken or heavily filled teeth and also to improve aesthetics. They may be made of a variety of materials such as porcelain bonded to metal or totally in porcelain. The latter sometimes can be used on front teeth so that they are virtually indistinguishable from their neighbours. They are a permanent fixture and should not come out. They can be made using an external laboratory which requires two visits to the practice or made in one visit at the chair side using our CAD-CAM system called CEREC.
