At The Lodge Dental Practice we are focused on preventative dentistry. We encourage our patients to attend regular maintenance appointments to assess the health of their mouths.
Our six monthly maintenance appointments aim to catch problems early. During these appointments we check the health of the gums and teeth, the condition of the restorations and also carry out soft tissue examination as part of oral cancer screening. We also examine the health of the jaw joint (TMJ). If treatment is required, such as a filling, you can always rely on receiving the best possible service and the highest standards of dentistry at The Lodge Dental Practice. See our treatment menu for the treatments available.
We check for oral cancer at every maintenance appointment. Smoking, drinking and an unhealthy diet increases the risk of mouth cancer. Early detection increases chances of survival.
One of the main reasons for regular maintenance appointments is to check for decay, be it new decay in previously un-filled teeth, or recurrent decay in teeth which already have fillings or crowns. Decay is often symptom free and, even though you cannot feel or see anything, the tooth is still deteriorating. We use the combination of high magnification and powerful lighting along with necessary x-rays to help diagnose problems at an early stage to prevent excessive tooth damage. When cavities are small, they are much easier and less expensive to treat. This detailed examination technique is also used to show up infections in the root or bone loss around the tooth
A big part of keeping your mouth, teeth, tongue and gums healthy is through effective brushing and the use of interdental aids (floss and/or brushes). As well as professionally cleaning your teeth, our hygienist will advise you on the best way to brush and clean in between your teeth. She will also offer diet advice if required.
Bad breath (halitosis) can be embarrassing for both you and the person you are speaking to. It is very common and there are many different causes.
We are experienced in fresh breath treatments. We can help identify the cause of bad breath and then customise your treatment accordingly. Once the cause is identified we can help you overcome this embarrassing issue and offer a solution as we have done for many of our patients before you.
